Articles

• America History and Life: Indexes and abstracts periodical articles and dissertations in the field of North American history, prehistory, and culture.
• Historical Abstracts: Indexes and abstracts periodical literature and dissertations on world history (excluding the U.S. and Canada) from 1450 to the present.
• JSTOR: Full-text archive of scholarly journals in electronic format, digitized from the first issue onward to a "moving wall" of two to seven years ago.  
• Project Muse: Provides access to the full text of over 100 scholarly journals in the arts and humanities, social sciences and mathematics. Coverage varies for each journal. 
• SocINDEX : Identifies articles on a wide variety of sociological topics, including those related to food and food habits. Good amount of full text. 
• ScienceDirect : Identifies articles on a wide variety of science-related topics. Particularly useful for articles related to the scientific aspects of nutrition and food consumption. Good amount of full text.

• Feeding America: The Historic American Cookbook Project
  Maintained by Michigan State University, this project contains "an online collection of some of the most important and influential American cookbooks from the late 18th to early 20th century." 
• Food Timeline
  Useful for locating food history and period recipes. Features include historic food prices and tips for adapting older recipes for modern kitchens. Maintained by Lynne Olver, "a reference librarian with a passion for food history."
• Gastronomy Research Guide
  From Boston University Libraries. Includes an extensive collection of vetted web sites. 
• The Library of Congress guide to the study of Food History
  Assists with "identifying resources and trends in food history studies, through a broad sampling of writings and bibliographies.Focus is on works published in English, during the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, and mainly in the United States, though other time periods and areas have occasionally been included." 
• University of Adelaide's Research Centre for the History of Food and Drink
  Helpful book review and bibliography sections. 
• World Food Habits Bibliography
  "English-Language Resources for the anthropology of food and nutrition" maintained by Robert Dirks, Emeritus Professor of Anthropology, Illinois State University.
