Suggested Subject Headings/Keywords

“Online social networks”, “Electronic villages (Computer networks)”, “Cyberspace--Social aspects”, “Internet—Social aspects”, “Internet games—Social aspects”; or, combine ‘social aspects” with a specific website, game, or online social network company, for example,“ Myspace” AND “Social aspects”.

Reference Books

The library has a number of reference books of potential use for research in this area. For example:

  • Encyclopedia of community : from the village to the virtual world

  • Encyclopedia of computer science

Electronic Resources/Databases

The library’s databases are arranged by disciplines (categories), for example, Engineering, Political Science, Sociology, etc. First look for the categories that best match your research topic, then look for specific resources (databases) that may contain information you need. The following are a few suggestions:

  • Category: Interdisciplinary
    • Academic Search Complete: a comprehensive collection of journals (scholarly and non-scholarly) including many sociological and political titles.
  • Category: Sociology
    • SocINDEX with Full Text: A sociology research database that offers all sub-disciplines of sociology, including abortion, anthropology, criminology, criminal justice, cultural sociology, economic development, ethnic & racial studies, welfare, and many others.
  • Category: Engineering and Computer Science
    • ACM Digital Library
      Abstracts, reviews, and full-text for articles published in ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) journals and magazines, as well as conference proceedings.
    • IEEE Xplore All-Society Periodicals Package(ASPP)
      The database provides full text access to more than 120 IEEE periodicals from 1998 to present, but no full-text access to proceedings or standards.
  • Category: Newspapers
    • Newspaper Source: This database provides selected full text coverage for 245 newspapers, newswires and other sources.
