Shaping Our Energy Future

Books

The library has lots of books on energy sources and policies. Use PacifiCat, our online catalog, to find them. Begin with a keyword search. We also have electronic books that can be read online.

Periodical Articles

The library has periodical articles in print and online. Others you can request through InterLibrary Loan. We have both popular and scholarly periodicals. Here are some ways to tell the difference:

Popular Scholarly
Contemporary, popular topics Literature reviews, original research
Written by staff writers Written by scholars and experts
Selected by the editor Accepted by a panel of experts
Few or no footnotes, bibliographies Footnotes, bibliographies

Databases

The following databases should be useful for this course:

  • Academic Search Complete: abstracts and full-text of popular and scholarly articles
  • Business Source Complete: similar to the above with a focus on business and economics
  • CQ Electronic Library: full text of government documents.
  • JSTOR: backfiles of the full-text of hundreds of scholarly journals. No current content!
  • ScienceDirect: citations and some full-text of a wide variety of scholarly journals.
  • SCOPUS: index and links to a wide array of journals. Can also function as a citation tracker.

E-Journals

The e-journal list is just that—a directory of journals available in electronic format. Use this if you want to see if the library has a particular journal in this format. If you want to search by subject, use a database, such as one of those listed above.

InterLibrary Loan

Use the ILL service to request books and articles not held at the Pacific Library.

  • Takes about two weeks.
  • Books are free, articles are $1.00 for routine delivery.
