  1. A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier
    • In this book, Ishmael Beah recounts his childhood in war-torn Sierra Leone. He describes how he was turned into a child soldier after his village was destroyed. According to Walter Isaacson, “Beah’s amazing saga provides a haunting lesson about how gentle folks can be capable of great brutalities as well as goodness and courage.”
