Library Instruction

Student research projects not all that you had hoped?

Library classroomInstructors are encouraged to bring their classes to the library for instruction in using research materials and electronic resources. The librarians, who are liaisons to academic departments, will work with faculty members to design a course integrated library session to complement the teaching goals of the course or to support a specific assignment. Our wireless classroom offers sixteen computers for hands-on practice, as well as a demonstration computer and projector.

Sessions can cover:

  • Research Strategies
  • Source Evaluation-web, popular, scholarly
  • Library Services and Materials
  • Online Catalogs and Article Databases
  • Primary vs. Secondary Sources
  • Reference Sources
  • Print Resources
  • Hands-on Research Opportunities
  • Special Collections Materials

Pacific librarians can also:

  • Assist in developing library-related assignments
  • Provide instruction using a variety of pedagogical techniques
  • Create resource lists of appropriate sources
  • Develop online tutorials or resource guides
  • Create learning modules to add to professors' Blackboard sites

If you are interested, please contact your library subject specialist to arrange for an instruction session. If you don't know who your liaison is, please email Lorrie Knight or call 946-2087.
