Western Americana Collections

The primary focus of the manuscript collections is the history of California, emphasizing Stockton and the northern San Joaquin Valley. More than 400 collections of unique materials support research in a wide variety of disciplines. 

Letters, photographs, diaries, books, maps, business records, and other archival records document topics such as the Gold Rush and mining industry, pioneer experiences, overland journeys, agriculture, education, business, crime, religion, literature, transportation, politics, water development, theater, and women's and ethnic history from the mid-nineteenth through the twentieth century.
